Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

I believe it’s pancake Tuesday today, though I didn’t remember until after it was too late for breakfast. Is it acceptable to have pancakes for tea?

It is acceptable to eat pancakes at any time as long as they are covered in brown sugar with lots of cinnamon. This is what separates us from the savages.

Any other form of pancake eating is just plain wrong, which means you shouldn’t be allowed to eat them.

I will not discuss this further unless you agree with me.

What about lemon juice and icing sugar?

This is my favourite topping for pancakes + butter, but I wonder if its just folks of a certain generation, because nowadays people are going with blueberries, maple syrups, nutella, whipped cream etc instead.

Pancakes are just a pretty basic batter. I think that allows a pretty wide range of toppings. Sweet, savory, fruit, cream, butter, sugar, lemon juice, maple syrup, etc. Peking duck is often served with pancakes, but is not the only meat and pancake meal.

Luckily I didn’t have the ingredients to make pancakes at home, so I haven’t sullied their good name to prove a point

With sugar or maple syrup, or is it a special dinner topping?

Ended up at lunchtime, white sugar and lemon juice or lime juice for the big people and the 2 kids had maple syrup

I’m trying to decide if pancakes with sugar/maple syrup is dinner or desert, or if we make pancake lasagne or something 😆

Oh man that looks good. Too bad we don’t have any ice cream.

We did end up having pancakes for dinner, went with icing sugar and lemon juice (plus that one kid who had to put lemon juice, lime juice, icing sugar, maple syrup, and banana).

Found a hedgehog snuffling around the bushes at work during lunchtime. Very weird as I could have sworn they’re nocturnal.

Hate to say it, but they are considered pests here and should be trapped and humanely killed :(

Damn, just read the Forest & Bird article about them. They really are predatory.

Well this one was in the middle of a carpark on Great South Road so it probably has a low life expectancy.

I’ve looked this up before, and there are situations where it’s normal for them to be out in the daytime and not a cause for concern if they appear otherwise healthy. But largely they are nocturnal.
