lol, Angkor Wat is outside the city of Siem Reap, which basically translates to “Thailand defeated”
That converts to approx 7,500,000 Vietnamese dong for those looking for the dollar/dong conversion
That’s a lot of dong
hard currency.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Hua Quoc Anh, a Vietnamese makeup artist and content creator, posted a TikTok of his photo shoot at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, the second-largest city in Cambodia.
On Wednesday, the Vietnamese government charged Quoc Anh with providing “false information” and “insulting the reputation of agencies organizations, honor and dignity of individuals,” per Lao Dong.
The Vietnamese government said Quoc Anh was required to “strictly comply with relevant legal regulations when using the internet” and had to use it in a “responsible, civilized, progressive” manner, per Lao Dong.
In the same post, he included a photo of himself outside Vietnam’s Department of Information and Communication in the capital Ho Chi Minh City.
Phil Robertson, the deputy Asia director for Human Rights Watch, told the Japanese news agency Nikkei that the incident was “ridiculous.”
In September, Indonesia sentenced a woman to two years in jail after she posted a video saying an Islamic phrase and eating pork on TikTok.
The original article contains 440 words, the summary contains 158 words. Saved 64%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
He got fined for a simple mistake? Dang
It wasn’t a mistake. Cambodia takes that very seriously, as do the Thais.
Historically the area went back and forth from what would be considered modern day Thailand to Cambodia.
Angkor Wat was originally built as a Hindu city, as were many Cambodian monuments.
I was unaware that the Vietnamese cared that much, though they also have historical claim there.
I would imagine this is about relations more than anything.
Southern Vietnam was also Cambodian, so this news is surprising. Someone annoyed the wrong person (probably Hun Sen).
I was in Thailand one time watching this government made video in a museum about the archeological digs in some of the areas that they have had fights over. They kept showing things dug up and saying it was “evidence”. At the time I thought it was a translation thing. It isn’t, it is very important to the Thai government that they prove that certain places were historically their land. Especially given how much tourist money those sites bring in.
I have no strong opinions on who the rightful rulers of Ayutthaya are.
finally
the stupid tax
It’s a video Vietnam, calm down. You’re probably not getting paid anyways
