The five people aboard a missing submersible died in a “catastrophic” event, a Coast Guard official says, bringing a grim end to the massive search for the vessel that was lost during a voyage to the Titanic.
“The debris is consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber,” Mauger said.
This would’ve been a quick way to go out, compared to running out of air anyway.
Yeah you’d hope so. But because it wasn’t found until well after they ran out of air, it’s not really certain that the implosion happened after running out of air.
In terms of dying, hypoxia isn’t the worst thing either. I’d prefer that to many others.
I read something earlier today that said the US Navy reported hearing an implosion not long after contact was lost with the vessel so if that’s true then likely happened quick.
