Like the whole country is just exhausted

Wish the neighbours were a bit more subdued. Don’t know for sure where they got their fireworks from, but suspect they may have come straight from Satan’s asshole. Me and my wife are definitely part of the exhausted cohort of New Zealanders, so could’ve used the extra sleep.

I hate fireworks. I don’t mind a professional fireworks display because not only is it pleasant to look at, it also comes to an end.

The morons setting them off for what seems like hours, is the shit that gets to me. We have Ruru in the reserve at the end of our street and following every fucking Guy Fawkes, diwali, Christmas, new year’s, and any other time the inconsiderate fuckwits set off fireworks, I don’t hear the Rurus for weeks. Nevermind the other birds, dogs, etc.

Inconsiderate bastards is what they are.

      Ban fireworks.

God, look at me. It’s only 1 Jan and I’m ranting already.

Aww that sucks - no one likes the neighbours partying late into the night. Is it regular or was it more about the occasion, last night?

We were woken by MASSIVE thunderclaps above us in Wellington at about 4:30. Torrential rain not long after, but I love the sound of rain at night

I’ve got plans for tomorrow, tides wait for nobody.

I kinda hope the whole idea of getting utterly plastered on new years is becoming old fashioned anyway.

    Also I’m broke.

Not even the whole getting drunk thing - I’ve got 3 kids so that’s been out for years. Just a general atmosphere of meh - not seeing many celebrations at homes or anything.

Possibly, yes. It’s been a tough year for everyone I know, and a lot of people are just trying to get through the break without spending too much money.

I think the stress and uncertainty of the last few years has left us with no real optimism. There’s usually a lot more talk of New Year New Start and resolutions about getting your life generally better but now it feels like it’s just dragging yourself past a check-in point on a fairly mundane racetrack.

This year I’m definitely going to try and focus on good things in my journal to see if I can improve my outlook.

Idk if it’s just because I have completely removed myself from the news cycle, but I haven’t heard anything about NYE this year, not even from friends and family on Facebook. I think everyone is just like “meh”.

Not keeping up with the news is the best thing I did for my mental health in 2023. I have a vague idea of what’s going on but not insisting on keeping up with the latest and worst has been a good move.

I had to cut it out of my life in 2020. I was so stressed out that my memory was bad, I wasn’t eating, and I was sleeping like four hours max per night. I have seen no reason to add it back. If something important happens, it makes its way into everything, so I find out. I don’t need to know every little stupid thing some stupid person says on Twitter 50 times a day, or every time some politician makes some terrible decision that hurts Americans. Neither of those things are news, they’re business as usual, but they’re treated as breaking news by people and news organizations. I’m much happier under my rock.

I’ve seen zero social media posts mention new years as well, come to think of it. Nobody seems to care any more.

I’ve had subdued new years’ for years now, and prefer it. Maybe you’re just getting (or feeling) older?

Yeah, but that should have kicked in years ago for me.

Just feels like the whole country is in a meh mood.

I’ve had an exhausting few years so perhaps I haven’t noticed. But you can count me amongst those in a meh mood 😆

First time in many years we celebrated NY eve at friends. We had a very good time.
