these came a little earlier than anticipated—i was expecting them tomorrow—but based on the feedback in the thread we decided to quickly round these specific bases
- City Life, for all things urban; urban planning; municipal; public transit; FuckCars; stuff like that. also a good place for automobile-posting in lieu of a more centralized alternative.
- Jokes and Humor, which is pretty self-explanatory. please read the sidebar disclaimer, though
- Literature, also very self-explanatory.
- Nature and Gardening, our outdoorsy space in contrast to the more… climate change, public policy, and generally global Environment. all things nature, hiking, climbing, gardening, and things like that can be posted here.
- and Programming, which has been split off from the rest of Tech. see also its cousin FOSS, if you weren’t aware that one existed.
if your suggestion was not taken: i hopefully replied clarifying where it should go in the meantime, or it’s just intuitive if i missed a comment. as i said to a few people in the thread, another round of community creations is somewhere down the road–and probably not far–so don’t be too distressed!
thanks for using the website; hopefully this is my last big post of the day, lol. i’ll be trying to check out after this since most of the past two days have been spent keeping the site orderly
Sorry if this is a noob question but can only admins open communities?
Like for example if I wanted to create and moderate the following:
- /c/thegoldengator (like /r/thegoldengator)
- /c/twitch (like /r/twitch)
I would apply to do so somehow? Trying to figure out the user interface but maybe it’s limited because I’m on mobile.
Thanks
Correct we do not let users create communities on this instance. Most other instances do, or you can spin up your own instance to do so.
Maybe this is not how it works at all and it’s better to host your own instance?
Just learned that kbin magazines federate pretty well on Lemmy just by adding an @kbin.social at the end.
Example URL: https://beehaw.org/c/[email protected]
That is only one way though. KBin to Lemmy doesn’t retain the /c/ community name as /m/ currently. Instead posts end up in /m/random/. This will probably be fixed in the future.
Might we get a Mental Health community please? I will contribute (am therapist)
I would have preferred if “literature” was called “books” instead, but nice to see such a community.
Personally, literature is probably a better name imo, as it’s much more versatile and not limited to just books. This could include things, such as poetry and sharing tips & tricks on a variety of topics on the overarching subject of reading and writing.
That way smaller, niche communities with barely any following can be avoided and people with other interests, other than specifically books, have a community as well.
Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but could we get a community for pet pics? That’s, like, a third of the reason I use the internet.
Some kinda community for cute stuff will definitely be coming but we’re currently looking into volume storage before we make a photo based community and max out our storage real fast 🫠
I believe this is the right place to ask: https://beehaw.org/post/413919
How can I make links like that open in the Jerboa app? Every time I click on a link, my browser is opened and I’m asked to login.
Go to your phone’s settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Opening Links -> choose Jerboa -> Add Link
Just found that out myself
Thank you!
that’s a big help - thanks
fwiw, I’m a big fan of this idea
Can we get a weed beehaw?
We’re federated, right? I’ve just slung one up on kbin that anyone interested should be able to follow from here:
So because of federation I can subscribe to a kbin community from Jerboa even though my account is on beehaw which is running on Lemmy which is a different platform to kbin… That’s cool!
Good, isn’t it! All the flexibility and none of the limits 😁
If you’re on Beehaw this link may make it easier https://beehaw.org/c/[email protected]
Also chiming in with a “thank you.” As a brand new Lemmy / Beehaw user, I’m still getting used to how Lemmy works. Should probably read the documentation 😅
Ah! Thank you - I was pondering how to connect with remote communities 😁
I wonder if there is enough of a community for a /c/chess.
I’m interested. I also miss /r/anarchychess :(

sitting here reeling at the size of this W
I’m just hoping for an Android and PCGaming community. Both of which have large enough communities that they don’t really fit with Gaming or Tech.
Those are the two communities I miss most from Reddit.
For now I would encourage you to post in gaming. This place isn’t so huge that it’ll get lost in the noise.
Is there any specific way to request communities? I would like to create and mod c/animemes and c/WritingPrompts
I missed new community suggestion thread but I think a futurology community would fit beehaw’s vibes really well. I’d gladly contribute!
great additions!
