Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Nice. For Galactic Battlegrounds though, do check out the cnc-ddraw patch if you haven’t already, it does a decent job of upscaling the graphics. Expanding Fronts is more of a QoL and added content mod, but doesn’t do any upscaling stuff.

I think I installed it but can’t see any differences. Should it be obvious?

You’ll need to extract it to the game folder (where the game’s main executables are present) and run the cnc-ddraw config executable. Use Fullscreen Upscale, then go to advanced settings and use xbrz freescale. Make sure it’s set to openGL.

This is only a one-time thing btw, it works automatically in the background. The next time you run the game, just launch it normally using the Expanding Fronts launcher.

Yeah so I extracted to the game folder. When we say the game folder, we mean the root directory of the game? Because it also has a “Game” folder 😆

I’ve set the details just as you described. I’m pretty sure it’s not being loaded.

I’m running it on Linux, which might be related. I’ve read it should work, and there’s an extra step about setting it to override ddraw but it still doesn’t seem to work. I’ll have another play when I get more time later.

Yes, this should be extracted to the “Game” subfolder, where the Battlegrounds_x2 exe is located. Then run cnc-ddraw config and set the scaler/shader. Finally, add an override for ddraw using winetricks.

Edit: apparently the dll override is no longer required in the latest cnc-ddraw release

cnc-ddraw config does now detect wine (linux/macOS) and offers to add the needed dll override

I got it working! Just silly me putting it in the wrong directory!

Thanks for the help! It will make it nicer to look at as I play through the campaigns 🙂

Yay! Glad you could get it going. :)

Oh they didn’t capitalise “Game” in the instructions (what little instructions there were) so I took it as meaning the game’s directory. I will give it another go and let you know how I get on!
