that would be illegal too, because that information is not strictly necessary for their service - they could only opt to not provide the service in the eu
i used osmad successfully in austria, germany, chech republic, slovakia, denmark as pedestrian, biker and driver. i tend to download the maps because i dont like depending on internet. it works fine, routes are nearly identical to google maps (my wife doesn’t trust osmand). of course you don’t have actual traffic warnings - on the flipside: google does tend to invent streets …
i use a very similar one, in german we say: everything that doesn’t pay rent gets thrown out
Same in Austria but passiv-aggressivly framed as a rhetoric question: “War dein Vater ein Glaserer?”
it seems to me (as an austrian) that the underperforming ruling parties - especially the “conservativ” övp - already started the silly season and that means thinly veiled racism is the rule because the conservatives want the right-wing votes. The sudden change could just be stupidity - the chancellor and his party are not made of the brightest because loyalty counts more atm. i sincerely believe they vetoed romania in the last moment and weren’t even aware what was going on until then …
Austria: relativly strict: you have to have a reason (hunting, self defense or sport). depending on the category of weapon a mental assessment could be necessary (not in case of hunting rifles only). automatic weapons, explosives and some other weapons are not legal to own privately. you have to securely store the weapon and need an extra permission for carrying - which is nigh unobtainable, even for active police. Transportation in a locked container and unloaded.
