Director Dick Maas’ (Amsterdamned) remake of his 1983 Dutch movie De Lift. Down might not technically be a good movie, but Maas always aims to entertain, and he’s definitely successful at that. Thou Shalt Not Kill… Except (aka Striker’s War) (1985)
An army unit on patrol in Vietnam is ambushed and most of the unit is killed. The survivors are given leave to return Stateside and see their families. They decide to visit one of their buddies who had been wounded in the ambush. When they arrive in his town, they run up against a killer cult led by a murderous psychopath.
It’s a schlocky Vietnam-vets-vs-evil-hippies movie and Sam Raimi plays the evil hippie cult leader (in a hilariously over the top fashion). It can be found on ok dot ru. :)
Growing up, I used to frequent the local video rental store as well, so I know what it’s like to be captivated by all the amazing artwork on the VHS boxes. I’m glad these posts manage to bring you back to that time and place.
