UAW 4811 has filed Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges over UC management’s attempts to exclude thousands of workers from our bargaining unit. These workers include most first year GSRs, workers on a variety of fellowships, and other GSRs who have been placed in unrepresented job titles. If UC’s efforts are successful, all these workers stand to lose basic rights to timely pay, protection from discrimination and abuse, and even workers’ compensation. UC has been working to undermine our contract for months, but academic workers have fought back by organizing and filing grievances across the state. These ULPs are the next step in ensuring UC abides by our contract.
To make sure workers have the strongest case possible, all GSRs need to take stock of who is being misclassified and how. Fill out this form and another worker on your campus will be in touch about how to move the campaign forward. Please also forward this information to any GSRs who might be impacted by UC’s actions.
unfortunately this is par for the course. often professors are part of the problem too because “they got there’s” and have no solidarity to the workers the perceive as lesser. as much as right-wingers complain of leftism in universities , if it was ever true in the states it certainly is not any more.
