Why think there’s somethin to be said, something worthwhile, in the comments. It’s almost never true. OP is almost always the one doing the work to make something or make a statement. Keep the votes, but lose the people trying to score points in the comments.
Unpopular indeed; at least to me.
I look to the comments to get other perspectives and additional information that may have been overlooked in the original post. Then of course, discussion can ensue. Sprinkle in some memes in the right places and it works well for me.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but this is the content of a typical comment. If you had researched and posted how the nyt removed comments on their articles and then there was a study how reader satisfying went down, that might’ve added something to the conversation.
Also don’t take this the wrong way, but posts like yours don’t encourage actual discussion in the comments.
You get one person replying and immediately jump on them for not meeting a standard you don’t meet yourself. Why would anyone reading this thread want to add to it?
If you found the NYT comment removal thing interesting, why not post about that?
I suppose they would go well in a community about media consumption or something.
Well aren’t you full of yourself.
I said don’t take it the wrong way.
I don’t think they did.

Then you better have upvoted for being an unpopular opinion.
Belongs on vulgar opinions.
A discussion based app that doesn’t have comments makes no sense
My unpopular opinion is that OP should go back to reddit.
And use Infinity for Lemmy to make a backwards transition to Infinity for Reddit.
