This is a photo of mental illness. The filthy bathroom, the larping, the gun, and taking a picture of it all. This photo alone should be grounds for the person to never have access to a gun again.
It’s not larping when you’re actually military.
But that brings up a big point. He was military. Support the troops and give them mental healthcare. Also screen them, he should not have still been in the reserves.
I’ve heard it two ways. It’s forbidden to wear your uniform like that out in public all kitted out unless you are on active orders and working, or that it’s technically allowed but frowned upon.
I agree, the military should have screened and treated this man. They give vocational aptitude tests, do they test emotional aptitude?
I’m not sure if they test for that but I’m pretty sure if they do they don’t do follow ups

The 17yrs is in reference to how long the two guys in the article were friends.
I think you may have misread the article. The shootings took place October of last year. According to the article the interviewee had been friends with the shooter for 17 years / since around 2006
