    ‘Cartelnet’

Honestly, after my last go round with Xfinity customer service I’d switch to the cocainternet in a heartbeat. At least they’re up front about their criminal nature and contempt for your life.

The cartels are starting to figure out how the white collar criminals make their money. Look out.

Also, if your Viagras cartel signal has full bars for four hours, call your doctor.

It’ll be somewhat strange when they get to the point where they’re just legitimate businesses price-gouging their customers. It’s happening with avocados as well as other monopolies in various places. It’s only a matter of time before they’re just on the stock market.

I guess the cartels will enrich themselves until they can control people without violence.

They’ll own all the businesses and just control people with money.

I bet they have setup a proxy to capture all the traffic so they can capture all the logins and have access to their bank accounts.

That does not work without forcing the users to also use the proxy. Any website that uses https instead of http does not leak passwords, unless the device/browser of the user is compromised.

It sounds like a mechanism to make the town dependend on the cartel for internet, and then demand extortion prices for the internet.

They could easily do a man in the middle attack, but I doubt they would have the need to rob the poor people of their town.

Https is explicitly designed against man-in-the-middle attacks. Modern browsers make a bigggg fuss if a man-in-the-middle is attempting some shit. Those attacks do not work.

And if you do manage to make it work, it sure wouldn’t be easier than pointing a gun at someone and telling them to pay up for their internet connection.

You can … If people aren’t tech savvy you can just serve everyone plain http and most people will ignore the warnings.

Do they also threaten to kill anyone that chuckles when they say their name?

If so, I wouldn’t even make it to my first payment.

$20-30/month isn’t bad depending on the speeds, just saying.

Why even offer the WiFi? They could just threaten to kill them if they don’t give them money each month.

All I can think of is Eddie Izzard:

You know, we think if somebody kills someone, that’s murder, you go to prison. You kill 10 people, you go to Texas, they hit you with a brick, that’s what they do. 20 people, you go to a hospital, they look through a small window at you forever. And over that, we can’t deal with it, you know? Someone’s killed 100,000 people. We’re almost going, “Well done! You killed 100,000 people? You must get up very early in the morning. I can’t even get down the gym! Your diary must look odd: ‘Get up in the morning, death, death, death, death, death, death, death… lunch. Death, death, death - afternoon tea - death, death, death, quick shower…’”
