I guess I’m lucky mines only a 33% increase. 😬 A small mercy since it’s an embedded supply.

I’d just use the govt. comparison site, which can compare based on your energy use. Make sure you tick the boxes on the left to include the plans with time of use pricing, as they may be cheaper for you but are not included by default.

For me the cheapest was Sumo, but it will vary depending on how much and when you use power. It’s still more expensive than the current Lumo plan, but I knew this cliff was coming when I signed up for the fixed rate initially.

Yeah, I’m on a fixed rate plan that’s ending soon as well. Am housesitting elsewhere through most of winter but all these messages are a kick in the butt to switch before August as well. I did hear that with the govt comparison website you have to check that they’re showing you the most current/upcoming plans and not ones that are about to expire. Ugh, I hate that we have to do this every so often

Just think, once upon a time the utilities were owned by the government, and everyone got the same deal. There was no shopping around, no “tax” on people who didn’t spend their time comparison shopping (or don’t have the ability to do so). But hey, we got a quick boost of cash the government could waste, and this wonderful privatised system that gives us such cheap rates due to the wonders of “competition”. Ain’t life grand.

I wasn’t in Australia back in those good old days for the eastern states. But I have family in WA - and it was my first experience of Australia when I came over. I remain envious of how much more sensible energy bills are over there
