Social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube collectively derived nearly $11 billion in advertising revenue from U.S.-based users younger than 18 in 2022, according to a new study led by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The study is the first to offer estimates of the number of youth users on these platforms and how much annual ad revenue is attributable to them.
i can appreciate wanting to limit kids time and crap, but not sure why the amount of ad revenue matters. tv/cable/streaming also make billions in ad revenue off children . they claim its to get an idea of ‘the number of youth using the sites’, but that doesnt mean you need to translate it to dollars, just eyeballs.
the point is the number of kids being affected so regulation could be considered. why does money matter.
i hate these platforms. i hate ads, but theres something fishy here i cant put my finger on.
