Israel’s High Court of Justice unanimously ruled on Thursday that same-sex couples are eligible to adopt children.

The verdict was reached by three presiding justices following a petition, which argued that Section 3 of the Adoption Law must be interpreted so LGBT couples would be eligible to adopt within the scope of the existing law.

Look at that. Even a genocidal ethnostate is more progressive on LGBT+ issues than Republicans.

You use the word “Republicans”, which indicates that you understand, to some level, that a country can have more than one political party. The next logical step would be realizing that this principle can apply to countries other than the United States. Can you do it?

Israel has special LGBT work permits and asylum processes for Palestinians who are gay. There are more Palestinians out in Israel than in Palestine.

Come on, I know the Middle East isn’t safe for our gay friends- but that doesn’t mean we should give a free pass to one group mass-killing the other sides children just because they have better gay optics.

There are no free passes. Both sides slaughter each others children.

And then one slaughters their gay children themselves.

One does not need to equate these - or diminish the good in what Israel is doing. It’s progress. May there be much more.

As an avid Palestine supporter, I gotta say the news is not about that, and bringing it up out of context is just the means to hijack attention to the position we’re all already aware of.

This piece of news is good, regardless of the conflict. Might be a little weird for them to focus on that right now, might be a political game, but it is good regardless.

My congratulations to Israeli LGBTQ+ community.

With Israeli obsession with children and family, it is extremely hard for LGBT, or any other couples to adopt - they have to prove they have the means to raise up these kids - both material and psychological.

This is the same Israeli court that has ruled against Netanyahu multiple times, and which he has been desperately trying to delegitimize for fear of eventually going to prison. What Israel is doing is terrible, and we also shouldn’t automatically dismiss progressive voices in Israel just because they are Israeli. There is a large percentage of Israel that does not support Netanyahu or the genocide he has undertaken

I would be willing to bet that there are maybe, at most, 50 people out in Gaza out of 800,000. And even that might be high.

There are no protections at all in Gaza, and you’re quite likely to be the recipient of an honor killing.

So, if you were to ask anyone in Gaza if they’re gay, they’re going to say no.

Just because they’re not out, doesn’t mean they’re not gay. Israel has 100% killed more LGBTQ Palestinians recently just from all their bombings.

Is that true? I’m not aware of any Muslim states that anyone would refer to as progressive. Which ones are you thinking of?

The US has seen almost unparalleled peace and prosperity and I wouldn’t say becoming progressive is easy. We’re still fighting about reproductive rights here.

And LGBTQ rights. But I would say it’s true for any theocratic states, except for to its credit Isreal. It just happens to be that most of the ones in today’s world are Muslim. The Christian Fascists of the US are trying to turn the US into a theocratic state as well, and when our laws are based on religion, it’ll be terrible for LGBTQ, too.

8% of the world’s population identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Israel has killed 21,000 Palestinians in Gaza. Assuming the same percentage, that is 1680 people who identified themselves as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

In the 20 years of Hamas rule, they have not killed 1680 people in Gaza for being gay.

Just because the people Hamas govern are having atrocities committed against them does not exempt Hamas, or Palestinians, from criticism. Especially not in matters unrelated to conflict.
