Why would you need an option on the ballot to say you want everyone else to choose a candidate for you?

Look, I agree, but there’s also statistical value to the actual choices in seeing that a portion of the electorate isn’t being heard. At least in certain circumstances. I still totally agree that not voting/voting “none of the above” does give your vote to someone else.

But is that statistical value the difference between a valid election and an invalid one, as the original commenter claimed?

Plus it’s weird to make that the only pure opinion question. If you’re going to do that, why not ask other questions, like which candidate you’d really prefer if you thought they could win, or who you’d really prefer even if that person isn’t on the ballot?

Oh that’s not how I took their comment. I took it as a badly written “if there are no valid choices to me” rather than “election is invalid”.

Oh, the shitshowrunners will sure claim it’s valid. What I meant to say is that it’s a scam. If an election is a way to find out whom does the electorate want to elect, then this is not an election, it’s a voting process. A voting process without a way to distinguish “yes, I’ve researched them all and cared to show up to tell you I want none of them” from invalid ballots, people not showing up etc etc is actively swiping the actual people’s stances under the carpet.
