A herbicide too dangerous for China, is being used in the U.S.

And the worst part is, with “global greening” being caused by the increased CO2 due to climate change, the weed problem will only get worse and worse, requiring stronger and stronger herbicides.

For a little context into why The Dude might have used the phrase, there’s the first obvious pun that paraquat is a weed-killer, and Jeffrey is of course a stoner.

Paraquat was also used specifically by the feds to destroy marijuana crops, and some of the tainted crops of course still made it the hands of consumers, leading to health effects. Some would argue that poisoning marijuana smokers was an intentional goal of those operations.

It was also used in 'nam, so it could also have been something he picked up from Walter. Fighting and jungles is rough, so the US military sprayed a whole lot of herbicides trying to get rid of some of the jungle, which led to a lot of health effects both in the local people living there, and US soldiers. Agent Orange was a different herbicide used for that same purpose that you might have heard of.
