So as the title says, I feel like I can’t 100% leave Reddit till there is somewhat more community & content in the Fediverse alternative. Don’t get me wrong I feel the Fediverse is a wonderful idea that could be a great replacement for Reddit as well as other mainstream media but how do I move across if most of the content as well as active posters are on Reddit?

Get used to less. It’s good for you not to be able to scroll infinitely.

Switching to Lemmy was a great deal for me in terms of time management.

@dream_weasel I’m not trying to infinitely scroll but sometimes I like to have information about some of the games or tools I am trying to use, a good portion of them are on Reddit sadly.

Maybe create the community here and start reposting some of the content you find lacking? It could help others make the switch, create more engagement, and take off here. I understand not wanting to take on the responsibility though.

I reposted some things I had bookmarked from Reddit to their corresponding communities, but luckily haven’t had to create my own. I think there’s a community where you can put in a request for it to be made, iirc.

@em2 Yeah I already use so many things to not do the things I should, I know that if the information was all on the Fediverse it would be much easier but doing the work to add hundreds of things would take time but like you said if it’s a few things I already bookmark or something on Reddit then maybe it should just be copied across. I’d love to know what that community for the requests is if you can ever think of it.

It seems like Lemmy’s picking up anyhow. I was here a bit ago before the Reddit sale and opted not to stay as the activity here seemed sparse. I’ve come back recently as I’ve noticed a disturbing trend at Reddit after their sale where commenters/upvoters suddenly have a “more positive” take on tech and AI, and there’s increased bashing on commentors who express concerns about the future (particularly if it’s AI-related). This happened heavily in subs where there was either a very balanced view or heightened lean towards concern for the future. I have one private sub I regularly visit, but after some lurking, I’m considering migrating to here and Diggit permanently.

I just left and never went back as a principal, sure there isn’t as much content here but at least I’m not in reddit. Now I swap between some mobile games, lemmy and other stuff, I setup an rss reader to pull in updates from a bunch of stuff I’ve always wanted to catch up on but just never seem to like MotoGP or little wierd thing like micromouse race or local news papers

@variants Nice, I hope I can find my place on the fediverse like you have, seems like I have some things to sort out when it comes to tools and stuff that I like using.

Steal content from Reddit and post here. Or use Mastodon, Twitter, etc etc. The more we do it here, the more you will be able to eventually sit back and scroll.

I definitely feel the same way. I check reddit maybe once or twice a week, and mostly just for a couple smaller communities that don’t have any content on the fediverse. I stick to fedi for mindless scrolling, though.

@bridge_too_close My use of Reddit mainly consists of Local Subs that don’t want to move across due to the long history on Reddit (That and some of the people are old and don’t know how to use Reddit right let alone the Fediverse) and subs that are for helping in Games or Apps that I use on a regular basis.

Depends somehow, there could be more. But in reddit you couldn’t be seeing everything anyway either. I feel like there’s enough for me here to not need to be checking back on reddit.

I think it may depend on how you use Reddit. If you use it professionally or for things like research (even non-professionally) then you’re not going to find a reasonable facsimile of that pretty much anywhere. That data and content took decades to build.

If you’re looking for human interaction (like you want to use Reddit to interact with people on posts or in comments) then you might find that here so long as you can find the topics on which you want to interact on this platform.

If you want to doom scroll you can sort of do that here but it’s limited by the amount of content creators using the platform. The only way to up that number is to contribute and or encourage others to contribute. That’s not going to happen overnight.

A lot of the active posters on Reddit may have left. I don’t know for certain (we get a.lot of mixed reports) but I feel like more and more Reddit is filled with bots. That’s subjective because I no longer use Reddit. But it was something I was noticing more and more on Reddit before I left.

I don’t think you’ll find a one for one comparable site. But perhaps splitting your time between other platforms (fediverse or outside it like Imgur or Tumblr) you might just get what you need?

Reddit has fallen into a fetish cycle and that’s where most content comes from. People here post less content but it’s more interesting and the conversation is better.
