Highlights: [T]he City of Brotherly Love was just named one of the Top 10 must-visit cities worldwide.

Lonely Planet, an industry-leading travel guidebook publisher, listed Philadelphia in fifth place for the best global cities to travel to next year, making it the top-ranked U.S. city on the travel guide’s list.

“Philadelphia is the perfect blend of old school and modern metropolis, a city marked by rich history but with an ever-evolving cultural core,” [Lonely Planet Executive Director] Chambers said. “We were excited by the balance of old and new — museums, history, food, and iconic cultural references — that make it the kind of place that feels instantly familiar but embedded with unique and personal moments of discovery.”

Besides the ever-growing culinary scene in Philadelphia, which continues to get nods from the New York Times, James Beard awards, and the Michelin Guide (which called us the “Frenchest American city”), Philly will soon host a plethora of events that bring widespread appeal, like the FIFA World Cup and MLB All-Star Game coming to the city in 2026.

    After a quick Google search.

I hope you don’t think I’m simply besmirching Philadelphia, I am originally from Anchorage, AK, I live in Fairbanks but travel to Anchorage twice a month to fly to work. Anchorage is the most dangerous metro area in the Western US, in 2021 at least. In fact, a roughneck I work with was mugged outside a bar in Anchorage.

I only wanted to point out and somewhat joke about the irony that a travel advertising publication was telling people to visit the sights of Philadelphia without any mention that you should at least be aware that a traveler may not want to get drunk and walk around at night, which often happens on trips. For instance if I said you could go check out the beauty of the beaches of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil and party it up with the colorful locals, would you not have some gut instinct telling you to do some further research and perhaps prepare yourself? The article just feels somewhat incomplete.
