I always head this as:
How does an elephant hide in a cherry tree?
It paints its toenails red. You’ve never seen one? That’s because it works.
And I know this joke as:
Do you know why are elephants’ eyes red?
(why?)
So that they can hide in cranberry trees
(I’ve never seen an elephant in a cranberry tree)
That’s because it hid so well
But cranberries don’t grow on trees.
