Why do surge protectors continue to draw power from wall sockets even if switched off or if nothing's connected to them?

Edit: As others have pointed out, it seems switching them off does stop them from drawing power.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.
