How alarmed? holy fuck, there no level below running around with ones hair on fire that would be appropriate. if Trump wins again, it is the end of all things. This is not fucking hyperbole.
He will purposefully burn so much coal there will be no stopping a wet bulb planet.
Dude, I’m scared in a way that only someone who has a history degree can be scared. We are currently in the lead-up to the next global conflict, and this time, we have the capability to destroy ourselves.
I’m seeing what is going on now, and it’s the same thing that was happening in Europe in the 1920s. I’ve been saying that January 6 was the GOP’s Munich Beer Hall Putsch. We’re gonna find out in a couple weeks if we’re gonna let the new fascists gain power like Hitler did in the 30s.
I’ve no history degree but this all smells very similar to the late Roman Republic to me. The cult of personality, purges of those not loyal to the right person etc etc.
With the technology at our disposal, the possibilities are unbounded.
No matter what happens, there will be cuts to things like Medicaid and the ACA and folks like me can kiss goodbye access to my $18.5k+ per month cancer medication. The LGBT community will be vilified and being LGBT will be turned into a crime.
People should be fucking alarmed because people will die, just because they’re behind the invisible wall of poverty or a marginalized community doesn’t make it any less damning or horrific. America is just used to shrugging and moving on when the poor and marginalized die.
It’s systemic murder and it can and will happen under a Trump (in actuality Vance, once he 25th amendments Trumps ass) Presidency. Project 2025 isn’t a joke, when people tell you who they are, believe them the first time.
Project 2025 points to changes on facistic levels, say no more.
If you are not a diehard MAGA you should be terrified and voting like your life depends on it. Even moderate Republicans are going to be targeted for not being MAGA enough.
Well, seeing as i work for the government, I expect I’ll be fired if not outright hunted down.
I don’t think I’ll live through another Trump term, so I’m probably going to check out if it happens.
Never kill yourself for something that’s somebody else’s fault.
Go to Canada or Australia before you pull that switch
Most people don’t have the resources necessary to move up the street, let alone to another country. And both Canada and Austrailia are significantly harder to legally emigrate to than the US. The people who have the resources to do that on a whim are probably the ones who have to worry about Trump’s agenda the least.
I would if that was an easy option but as of yet no one seems to be taking in US “refugees” nor do they have much sympathy for nor want them.
I’m past my prime with cancer. They just view me as a foreign drain on their system. I don’t pass the basic immigration demands because I am poor and don’t bring anything to the table economically.
I guess everyone with money and ability to move can find comfort in leaving folks like me behind to die.
Yeah, the whole no public charges thing I think all countries have will lead to a lot of people with disabilities dying when Medicaid is cut off, if not a repeat of Aktion T4 in the USA. I don’t see a good future for anyone disabled in the USA. The situation is grim, at best.
Canadian here. I hope you have tens of thousands of dollars and several years to burn, because it’s very expensive and time-consuming. Also, have fun with one of the worst housing crises in the world. Some visual data can be found here.
How does the housing crisis compare to NYC?
Just based on the house price to rent ratio (the ratio of house prices to the annual cost of rent), NYC is about 38. Here is an infographic of the house price to rent ratio of various Canadian cities:
As you can see, the cost of housing in NYC is comparable to Toronto and Victoria. Our mortgages don’t have fixed rates though, so every 5 years your mortgage rate goes up (theoretically it could go down, but it generally doesn’t). It makes buying a house a lot more risky even if you can afford it.
You think Canada will be safe when shit hits the fan in the US? Because I don’t.
its expensive. ive checked.
ask them politely if you can just step in to use the bathroom, be in and out in a sec. (then stay)
Can’t afford to leave. Absolutely going to be a target to be disappeared as a gay guy if even half the shit from project 2025 is true.
I don’t even want to stick around for much longer anyways, but I wanted to at least make sure my mother didn’t have to bury a child before checking out. I just want to be left alone to suffer in peace, have her cremated, and then blow my own brains out, and I might not even be allowed to do that if Trump gets elected.

Imprison opponents:

Build internment camps:
Invade Mexico:
Maximum. It would be like book burning, but with people.
Don’t wait until it happens to acquire firearms and training. Start building up communities and networks of like minded neighbors to look out for each other.

And I have faith that the Republicans aren’t planning on having a fair election or care about the actual outcome at all, so her winning still feels like they have about a month to try to fuck it all up anyway.
Remember the red wave hype? This is the same. Still, do the work and vote but don’t waste your time prepping for nothing. Polls are broken. The GOP is in its death spiral not a resurgence.
I wish I had your optimism.

We shouldn’t be he will be mostly ineffectual. He’s an orange blow-hard, nothing more.
That’s why the Heritage Foundation made a detailed plan for him with Project 2025. They’re creating lists of people to remove, executive actions to do, and training people to put in
Even his first term he was able to do a lot of damage, but they have plans ready to remove all the guardrails
it remains to be seen if trump is capable of following a detailed plan
He’ll be the person handed an executive order and told to sign. He doesn’t need to follow all that many details. He already has said he wants to appoint a huge number of the people who just so happen to be involved in Project 2025. They’ll be his inner circle voices
He’s never been the one with any real course direction. He’s always been an idiot. But, there are a lot of deviously evil and intelligent people pulling his strings. That’s what we should worry about.
This is a valid point, but I have faith in the Republic in which we live. I also refuse to live my life in fear. Losing sleep over an orange buffoon is not something I’m interested in doing.
WOW. You must be well liked and have a lot of women you respect in your life.
Wow, you’re catching all the down votes for this. For a valid opinion. Way to go Lemmy. Points don’t matter here, so whatever.
Anyhow, I don’t have your optimism about this at all.
Would you describe yourself as a generally optimistic person?
Is it a feeling or do you have a chain of logic that causes you to conclude there will be a positive outcome?
Thanks for this post. I appreciate the fact that you’re engaging in good faith.
I tell people I’m an optimistic pessimist. Absolutely convinced the world is going to hell, but that we’ll have a helluva good time along the way.
I think our also helps that I’m old. My son’s are likely older than most Lemmy users. I’m older than Pong, so I’ve watched the world change a lot in my six decades. A lot of people have predicted a lot of doom in those years, and the doomsayers have pretty much always been wrong.
Our nation is far from perfect, but we have been changing in a positive direction my entire life. I didn’t expect that to change because an Orange Idiot may be in the Oval Office again.
I’m in my forties. Was raised with an apocalyptic mindset.
I really hope you’re right. Our family motto is pretty much hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
We keep a well stocked pantry, recently bought a little play farm and moved to a purple state instead of deep red. The move was a positive change for my family. COVID and political insanity gave us the push we needed to take the leap. Our friends and family mostly went deep down the rabbit hole and we didn’t have ties holding us anymore.
Anyhow, I don’t have warm fuzzies about the future, but about all I can do is build a new life in a new place for my people. Crazy is lower where we are now, schools are better, cost of living is cheaper, weather is cooler and less violent. Long term, possible grandkids are positioned better for climate change, we’ll have our little farm producing our own meat and some vegetables.
Honestly, I really hope things continue to improve. You’re right, many things have gotten better. However, I’ve seen friends and family spouting insane shit and a New York city slicker con man be worshipped. It feels different. The parallels between the Nazis and this terrify me.
I envy you having a farm! My wife’s a Soldier we move a lot currently I’m sitting amongst a lot of cornfields. While I’m surprised at how much I like it here, I really miss Kentucky which is where we moved from.
The worshipping of the con man really bugs me. I came out of the religious right, and while I believe that it is possible for someone to support Trump for completely valid reasons, I didn’t believe you can be a Christian and do so. If you are a Christian and support him, you are a shitty Christian. Don’t be surprised if whenyou get to the Pearly Gates you hear “get away from me for I never new you!”
