I only learned at 18 that metal shouldn’t go in the microwave. I never had a reason to know until someone questioned my attempt to microwave a metal plate. Their shock surprised me as they considered it basic knowledge. But if no one teaches you, how can it be basic? Now, preparing to live alone, I’m curious about other essential safety tips that might be seen as “obvious” but aren’t universally known.
