I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it’s the first place that came to mind.
I just saw an ad on YouTube advertising penis enlargement pills with nothing but a video of a doctor that had a handful of jump cuts, and the video was paired with audio that had no noticeable cuts.
Most notably, the doctor’s lips were clearly edited by an AI to make it look like what she was saying matched the audio, even though the video and audio were obviously recorded separately.
I just think it’s downright fucking hilarious that YouTube now has the same ads that porn sites have. Damn, Google. What a dumpster fire.
Ha ha… Google thinks you have a small penis. 🤭
They still haven’t found out about mine.
I block ads, I’ll never know if mine is too small or not. 😞
My mom said it’s great.
You sonofa
I just saw a Youtube ad
I’d say you’re doing something wrong then already. There’s no reason to tolerate any deliberate assault on your mental integrity, e.g. ads. At least when there’re solutions as simple as configuring adblockers / using alternative apps. It’s harder with ads in your city.
Yeah, everyone could be use ad blockers but that’s a bit victim-blamey of you. “Shouldn’t have dressed… err… configured your browser that way…”
A better solution is to pressure them to stop the flagrantly abusive advertising.
In my mind, it’s more of digital hygiene than victim-blaming. The core issue remains: even seemingly innocent ads (“we sell bananas”) are manipulative in their intent, and they introduce interruptions into your flow of thought. That’s already abusive.
Morality and ethics have to wait outside, when the grown ups are talking about money.
“We here at Google believe no one should be evil. Just don’t be evil!
…
what’s that?
…
you say you’ll pay me to be evil? Fuck dude, that changes everything!”
I’ve been noticing this trend a lot. Profit made them all forget their principles, if they ever had any.
All the “serious” newspapers, that existed irl when the Internet became available, are now using the same subscription-based model, showing really low ads and contributing to the search engine chaos. They suddenly have articles about anything, just for SEO, just to rank high on Google.
Recently saw an AI made ad on YouTube that had Dutch text spoken by a German artificial voice. The add faked a Belgian Dutch speaking official news bulletin. I reported it to Google; I had to appeal their original decision to get it removed.
