I left Reddit much too late. I guess some habits can be hard to break.

My main account is here. For now, I am also using [email protected] for some local news.

Btw I’m a non-binary trans person [they/she/he].

  • I’m a bit skeptical with the title talking about evidence of cannibalism. I believe the subtitle is more accurate, because the evidence point to:

traces of manipulation of human remains

Cannibalism is the theory of this article, not the evidence. The evidence are:

individuals were dissected immediately after death. Cut marks on skull fragments indicate that the muscle attachments and scalp were removed before the long bones were smashed to get to the bone marrow.

The question what for is a legit one, but the answers are just theories.

Just to be clear, I don’t deny cannibalism is a thing. Some of us grew up learning in kindergarden the lyrics of the popular cannibalistic children’s song Il était un petit navire / War einst ein kleines Segelschiffchen / Itan ena mikro karavi (wiki)

  • I read the article you linked but I don’t see how it backs your argument that degrowth could be compatible with some form of capitalism (as you mention in your first sentence). It seems to me this article does the opposite.

Personally, I can’t think of any kind of capitalism that is compatible with policies / goals / objectives related to:

Tax justice for social ecological justice

    or

Redistribute land, labour, capital and resources within and between countries

    or

Direct activism and sabotage For example - anti-capitalism malware program

    or

Restrict platform capitalism (e.g. AirBnB); Promote decentralised platform cooperative models

    etc

(found in the Appendix A. Thematic synthesis of degrowth policy proposals)

For me degrowth is potentially one way to get rid of capitalism.

  • Degrowth is absolutely not compatible to capitalism because as an economic system it has growth embedded in its model. One of the biggest problems is that this economic system has taken over the decision making processes of human societies all over the globe (ie representative democracy). Like models of the past they portrait themselves as invincible, like kings thought of their situation, slave owners etc. I believe we should first be able to imagine a world without capitalism in order to achieve this goal. Btw I don’t have the answers, we do.

So the way I see things degrowth is fully compatible with humans and human societies (sorry I can’t use the term “human nature” but I suppose that’s another topic), personal growth and societal prosperity because it is anti-capitalistic.

So I also thought of sharing a 15-min video from a few years back:

  • I suppose if you have some bureaucratic ties with an EU country, Ireland would be easier to go to. Or if you want easy access to other european countries in the long term. To my knowledge finding a place to stay there is very hard as well as expensive, especially in Dublin. I don’t really know how the squatting scene is but I guess you would need to know at least one local for this sort of info. Few years back, you find a job online (with a short contract usually), and accommodation would be provided, I don’t mean free. Currently, I’m not sure.

  • as long as evidentiary screenshots are good to go

Interesting point and the way you put it, kinda helps me frame an answer. For me, the keyword you used was evidentiary

Practically, I can think of a couple of reasons for now (there could be more!) to use a screenshot, let’s say from twitter.

    • As evidence of what a deleted tweet was saying. I have the impression that due to how things are there nowadays, we are far from that sort of discourse.

    • Or as a reference to an actual tweet. In this case - imo - the screenshot is not necessarily enough as evidence, so a link is needed like we see in some articles. I suppose it also depends very much on the community itself. For example a white people twitter community is very different from one that is related to ocean conservation & tidalpunk, like this one.

For now, that’s more or less what I have in mind, and I’m open to discussion for sure.
