I recently tested Proton Pass and really liked it. I immediately got the limited offer for 12€ per year. Then I thought about it for a while and wanted to get Mail Plus as well.
To my negative surprise, I can’t subscribe to Mail Plus if I have Pass Plus and would have to switch to Unlimited. 12.99€ per month is far too expensive for me and paying for 1 or 2 years straight away is too much.
Since I don’t need a VPN or a 500GB drive, I’m now considering between Skiff and Tutanota. Although I would actually rather have Proton Mail…
I was in the same boat, buy ended up biting the bullet and went with Proton Unlimited. No regrets now, having the vpn is super handy when needed.
I’m in your same boat. They haven’t implemented having multiple subscriptions yet.
Customer support suggests to just create a different account, but it’s a shitty solution in my opinion.
According to customer support, there are no plans to do so either. They wrote to me: “There are currently no such plans and it has never been discussed”.
I was thinking about going this route, pass got me interested in the Proton ecosystem, was thinking about getting the mail plus subscription as well. But it looks like that’s a no go :(
Weird, I seen this topic being discussed. We’ll need to wait and see where it goes.
I thought the same but support wrote to me: „…they are looking into this idea since there are users that are requesting it, however, the Proton Pass feature, as well as the Pass Plus plan, are recently released and we can assure you that adding a new subscription plan isn’t on our roadmap.“
I think the support and you talk around eachother. Proton is working on making it possible to have more than one active subscription per account.
I thought so too. But they were pretty sure.
In the sense that there is not going to be a new plan for now, that is probably correct. However that doesn‘t mean that they are not working on combining plans
Im the reverse. I have Mail Plus and can’t subscribe to Proton Pass unless I upgrade to Proton Unlimited. I do not need most of what comes with Unlimited though so it’s a waste of money for me.
I hope they introduce the option to have two subscriptions soon. That’s actually a pretty easy option. I don’t like having a significantly more expensive product forced on me.
I really like the app so far. It’s really easy to use and has a nice UI.
One big disadvantagr is that no proton app is material you
Would have been nice, but doubt they would add that.
It’s strange that there’s no good feature request for material (you) on https://protonmail.uservoice.com/ Maybe someone should open one?
Might give this a try. Currently using Bitwarden but never hurts to try and diversify.
I was using BitWarden and I’ve now fully moved to Proton Pass. No problems!
Basically, password manager funcfionality with cloud storage and randomly generated emails. Even though I achieve these via my FTP server & temporary mail sites, introducing these features to those less tech savvy like this is a cool concept.

FTP Server for the cloud storage and temporary mail sites for the randomly generated email. That’s how i do it anyway.

I use Keepass, and my password database file is encrypted with a 20 character password. Many Keepass applications has FTP Sync functionality, making keeping the passwords up to date pretty easy.
That’s neat - i think I’ll adopt your way with the passwords.
I’m definitely a huge fan of all of the work that Proton is doing in the privacy space, I just have some slight reservations about having all of my services—email, calendar, drive, passwords, VPN—all from the same company. So, for now, I won’t be moving over to Proton Pass, but I will be paying attention to its performance.
Since I’m already pretty invested in a different non-cloud-based password manager, getting plus purely for the email aliasing is not a bad deal for €12 / yr, even not taking advantage of the other features.
Exactly what I’m doing. I bought the $12 a year option purely for the email aliasing. It’s like a discounted simple-login. Downside is you can only generate the aliases through proton pass, but that’s not a big deal for me.
I signed up for their VPN recently and was intrigued by their email offering so I uppee my sub not knowing I’d get this as well. I’ve been using bitwarden for years but after giving this a test drive for the last couple of weeks I’m strongly considering switching over completely. I’ve really liked it. The ability to create alieses on the fly is awesome.
I’m using it at the moment, loving it. Came over from Bitwarden and it does not feel like a step backwards.
I maintain my Bitwarden for passwords and Proton Pass for Email Aliases.
I like this service but it really needs keyboard shortcuts before it can become useful to me personally
I’m on the unlimited plan but won’t use proton pass until they provide a cli app. Using the actual pass app (passwordstore.org) for now since it is very flexible.
This is like an ad but like it’s about something a substantial part of the community think is worth checking. Imagine if ads were like this.
Hopefully this release means they’ll finally get around to properly integrating simplelogin.
I’ll find this hard to migrate from bitwarden but I may give it a trial in order to save a few quid on BW.
