He only knew this one shape at this point, and he immediately forgot how to make the face part.
Correction: he also knew cylinder, cube, dome, and amorphous blob!
I always found it silly that he didn’t get a better face later on. He practiced so much, and complained like a dozen times about “the face I’m stuck with”, but when bashir offers to give him any face he wants (after he, Sisko and O’Brien infiltrated the Klingons in disguise) he refuses.
And doesn’t seem to learn anything from all his practicing either once he gets his powers back.
I know it’s for consistency and to showcase his differentness to the viewers, but still.
He gets a better face. It happens in Children of Time when they get stuck on the planet with their descendants. It takes Odo a few hundred years to improve. So maybe he is improving but it’s at a rate that we can’t see.
I also though it was kind of weird that when they find the Founders they all have the same style of face like Odo. But I guess they didn’t have a face in their garden 🤷♂️
I heard a story that Rene was so good at “mask work,” emoting with his eyes and voice that they actually switched to a worse, one-piece mask under the prosthetics.
BRUH he got the gifted school student treatment
I saw René (Odo) in an off-Broadway show called “Dance of the Vampire” awhile back.
The show was kind of a weird shitshow, but René was great in it (admittedly I didn’t know he was in it in advance; we went because my friend was a fan of the star, Michael Crawford).
Here’s some reviews of René’s performance in the show I found online so folk know I’m not just talking shit:

I’m envious. That guy’s so talented. I first saw him in Benson back when I was a kid. He’s been in a lot of stuff. Did some voice acting in Avatar: TLA among other things. I’m def a fan.
He also did voice work in The Little Mermaid, where he got his own song, Les Poissons.
I totally forgot about that!
