Experts are stumped as to why colorectal cancer is rising dramatically among people in their 30s and 40s.
Colorectal cancer is the deadliest cancer for men under age 50 — and the second deadliest cancer among women in the same age group, behind breast cancer.
The incidence of colon cancer has been rising for at least the last two decades, when it was the fourth-leading cause of cancer death for both men and women under 50.
Among men and women of all ages, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death. Prostate cancer is second for men, and breast cancer is second for women. Colorectal cancer is third, overall, for both sexes.
Food is more and more processed and anything “healthy” or “natural” is more expensive.
Capitalists are finding more and more ways to make cheaper and cheaper food that’s not even made of the chemicals our body would see normally. They’re finding worse things than HFCS. Processed foods are bad, but that’s what capitalism wants to push because it’s easier to hide cut corners.
Making your own food also takes time and energy, which is increasingly being devoted to either work or work recovery.
And then they act shocked at the results lol it’s so frustrating because you know damn well if we can figure out what the problem is as individuals they know for sure about it as well. Like when California was like yupp we’re making Red Dye #40 illegal and then thr FDA is like yeah we’re gonna take another look at that after they let it poison us for 50 years KNOWING it is poison. Shit red dye 40 isnt even the worst but its a huge part of the problem. On top of that, check out some full water quality reports on tap water in the USA.
I also wonder how much modern pesticides play a part
I bet my left nipple that it’s from microplastics.
It’s either microplastics or the fact that the younger generations have been eating poison their whole lives whereas the older ones got at least their childhood filled with healthy nutritional foods
Probably nitrates for specifically colon cancer.
Nitrates are a huge concern and linked to colon cancer at this point. In basically any preserved lunch meat even if “nitrate free” where celery salt is added and usually creates more nitrates than the nitrate added stuff. https://www.who.int/news-room/questions-and-answers/item/cancer-carcinogenicity-of-the-consumption-of-red-meat-and-processed-meat
This needs way more publicity because the evidence is pretty overwhelming.
Lol. You’ve obviously never looked into the banned pesticides of the past. I mean at least modern apples aren’t sprayed with Lead hydrogen arsenate.
Yeah but there’s a difference between eating something you didn’t know was dangerous to cramming foods with known toxic preservatives
And PFAS
The fact that the person dying of colon cancer in the picture couldn’t be happier is pretty on brand for young people too.
“I won’t have to worry about student loans or healthcare costs this year.”
There’s an entire mentality to younger generations that’s basically nihilism or absurdism. Like yeah I expect to barely make it to 30, might as well entertain myself and be happy. Takes an entire youth to get there though.
Hey NBC? Maybe consider using a different photo.
Why? She is happy with her cancer /s I would approve if the photo would be true and there someone putting the best face for the worst. But we all know it is all set up.
Serious question: Could it be HPV transmission through anal sex?
We’d have to wait and see as things develop further, but I’m going to go ahead and say colon cancer rates rising alongside more and more food being processed is uh… far more likely.
That’s an awful lot of anal sex.
If they were doing it that much, I doubt they felt it was all that bad.
Welcome to Lemmy, where a genuine, honest question gets down votes.
What the hell is wrong with people here?
Because it’s a bad question?
It’s not though, it’s a reasonable question.
It’s a stupid question.
There are so many potential causes they could’ve asked about. Instead they went straight to sodomy? Hmmm, I wonder why.
Because I am a bisexual man.
Maybe they enjoy sodomy and they’re worried about it…. Be less judgemental. You’ll be happier.
It’s not a stupid question.
Anal cancer was not something I’d ever thought about getting from anal sex.
It’s not even bigoted, probably more straight people have anal sex than gay people.
Yep. I am a bisexual man and I was genuinely curious if there could be a link between HPV, which is carried by a large percentage of the population and colon cancer. Given that anal sex is far less taboo today then it was back in the 80’s and 90’s, and given that a lot more people are skipping condoms today than back then (AIDS and all), I wondered if there could be a connection.
Their motivation could be devil’s advocate, sounding alarm bells about how information could be twisted to fit a narrative.
You don’t know that. You’re assuming this person is asking from a place of bigotry.
anal anus
You’d expect it to go down, if that were the case. Way more people under 35 have gotten an HPV vaccine compared with older people.
This article just came up regarding cervical cancer and HPV. Same age group as this anal cancer discussion. Cases plumet for young women because of the HPV vaccine but not 30’s and 40’s because the vaccines were approved in 2006.

As someone who lost their colon to Crohn’s disease at 23, I hope people start taking notice
It’s not only food the issue. A global shitty society too.

Well of course, because people be taking it up the ass in this economy.
I’ll be here all night, folks. Mostly because of the ankle bracelet.
What’s the split among income/zip code?
