The takeaways from the article are:

AI, VR and AR impact on love and relationships: Mo Gawdat, a former Google X executive, warns that these technologies may create illusions that affect how people perceive and experience intimacy, companionship and sexuality.

Sex simulation with VR headsets: Gawdat argues that the physical aspect of sex can be easily simulated with devices like Apple’s Vision Pro or Meta’s Quest 3, which can convince the brain that the virtual experience is real.

Dating apps with AI avatars: Gawdat speculates that dating apps may offer AI avatars that learn from and bond with users, similar to the Replika chatbot app. He questions what would prevent this scenario, since there is money in it.

The only missing piece is realistic looking robots/dolls and being able to move themselves. If those get solved things are going to get interesting.

This will directly lead to ‘androids.’ People (mostly men) will just spend $10k to get a sex bot instead of a wife. It will be clunky at first, but after 10 years and huge profits, humanoid robot companions will be super realistic. Perhaps even ‘go to the supermarket with you’ kind of level.

It’s going to be a wierd future.
