Anti Brexit: told you so.
Pro Brexit: this is not the Brexit I voted for.
They wanted a Brexit that would still offer them the benefits of being in the EU, without any of the responsibilities of it
Which is pretty much what we had anyway. Oh, but if course I dOn’T wAnT bRuSsElS tElLiNg Me HoW tO LiVe!
I’d prefer the complete opposite of only Brussels telling us how to live and the Tories fucking off forever.
I don’t think Brussels ever trying to make me do anything, or change my life in any noticeable way.
The Tories on the other hand not so much.
Hold on now, the EU had given us our rules on annoying things like keeping our water clean, allowing citizens to move around, and human rights.
How are we meant to exploit people and the environment being told to live like that?
In fact, the UK has been strong armed into over 52,000 laws!
Look, they’re irritating things like reducing pollution, stopping our packaging from containing hazardous chemicals, keeping working hours fair, protecting temporary workers rights, banker regulation… how are the Tory government supposed to fuck everyone over with all these in place?
We already basically had that. There was essentially no onerous responsibilities on individuals to be in the EU. Sure we had to give the EU money, but we also got money and I’m pretty sure that it was coming in more than it was going out.
On an individual citizens level, essentially there was no downside and huge amount of upside.
Have you tried going to France lately, it’s a nightmare, it used to be that you would just drive up to the little passport kiosk and some French guy would barely glance at you and wave you through. You could have been a terrorist or smuggling drugs, he didn’t care.
I have a Swiss friend who just is waved through in airports. And the Swiss have never even been part of the EU to begin with!
Pro Lexit: this is just about to get started
Why would any sane left leaning leaver believe the right would deliver a left leaning brexit?
The added benefit is crippling the Tories for at least a decade, plus all the scalps already taken:
Lexiters are the most deluded of all Brexiters.
Really? The CAP sucks up the largest slice of the budget and rewards rich land owners to pollute
Remainers were the most deluded, thinking they were already in the sunlit uplands, when in reality they were just giving up sovereignty for pet passports and mobile roaming whilst 25k lobbyists in Brussels shape policy and decisions at the top are made in secret
https://www.politico.eu/article/copa-cogeca-farmering-lobby-europe/
And that’s not even the Antici secret notes from the Council meetings.
Edit. lol downvote away, no karma censorship bollocks here
Facts > feels, most of you don’t even know how the EU works, and given an actual chance to do something revolutionary cowered like chicken littles because of a threat to Thatcher’s neoliberal single market?
Imagine voting for the status quo, lol.
the EU offers a lot more than your over simplification.
Sure, we should have stayed on the single market, there was no need for any disruption
But there was no way out of the environmental disasters that are the common policies without leaving the EU.
But, Tories gonna Tory
we could have influence the EU from within. Instead we are flushing raw sewage around the coast and asking people to stop consuming sea food.
Yeah, the CAP has required reforming for 40 years. I’d given up hope way before they spent all of our net contribution on poorly implemented and failed biodiversity policies, according to the EU’s own auditors.
https://www.arc2020.eu/cap-billions-spent-on-biodiversity-with-little-impact-auditors/
The CFP is also a cluster fuck that’s based on fish quotas to satisfy boats, not fish. The bycatch and discards are a decades long failure. The herring population is about to collapse as a result, and over 10k dolphins are killed each and every year.
Oh yeah, how has Brexit worked out on that front?
The rivers and sea are literally full of runoff and shit.
You’re confusing a political decision on European affairs with piss poor governance by the Tories
But that’s our realistic alternative.
Either we work with the EU, who (even if not perfect) have sane, useful laws, with oversight of our own government, or we work with the corrupt tories only, who will keep taking and leave us with nothing.
Perhaps we should have made sure our country wasn’t being run into the ground before getting rid of any oversight.
But now it’s too late, and the results are clear no matter what your fantasy brexit was. The Tories were in charge when you voted to give them more power. And now they have more power. Shocked Pikachu.
That’s treating the symptoms and also assumes that EU oversight is a good thing.
What happens if the right continues its rise and ends up in powerful positions within the EU? Do you really want that sort of oversight?
It’s not too late. And if you voted remain, you voted with the Tory government…
I’m honestly more surprised by the fact that 61% of Brexiteers still think this will ultimately turn around, than I am by this headline
We’ve had almost 4 years to start righting the ship, and we’ve done barely jackshit so far. What makes them think things will suddenly change anytime soon.

Climate change is an easy to solve problem all we have to do is die out. Fortunately governments around the world are working on that one.
Are you suggesting that Hamas and the IDF are working to solve climate change in the worst way possible? 🤔🤷
Their delusions.
A labour government that doesn’t contain brexit ultras
The problem is if Labour bring the UK back into the EU the Conservatives are going to start going on about illegitimately denying the will of the people, the actual will of the people not withstanding.
It sets the precedent that you can just flip flop on these things.
The only way to do it would be they would have to be another referendum. And I’m concerned that UKIP idiots would come out of the woodwork once again and mess that up.
No one is talking about rejoining, just repairing the relationships
Nearly 1 in 10 think it’s gone well???
And the irony is that the UK never really committed to their EU membership.
Reality is optional for some people.
Dementia
[I’m sorry] Reality is optional for some people.
It’d odd until you consider that at least that many Brexiteers fell head over heels for that misleading NHS statistic printed on the side of a bus, and just ran with ot to the voting stations…
If it’s that easy to convince them to shoot themselves in the foot, it’s probably that easy to convince them it was a good thing.
They were all coma patients.
I’ll bet my left leg that 9% consists of A: corrupt shitbags who shorted the £ or otherwise made profit from the disaster, and B: Daily Mail-style Tory-voting retards who have absolutely no critical thinking skills and who reckon they are just around the corner from being in danger of a higher tax bracket despite shooting themselves in the foot like turkeys voting for Christmas, every. Fucking. Time.
People who go on about tax brackets are the most annoying people in the world because they demonstrably don’t understand how tax works.
No Susan you won’t get put in a higher tax bracket if you get £100 extra a month. You’ll only pay extra tax on the £100, I don’t care what you read on Facebook. That isn’t how tax works.
I’m in my late fifties, and my best friend who regularly takes me hiking (he’s ex-Coldstream Guards) is a Brexiteer and I’m a Remainer.
We meet maybe once every couple of months, and it’s always the first thing he wants to talk about - he’s firmly in the “this is not the Brexit I voted for” camp.
I don’t want to bad mouth him because he’s my dearest of friends but give it a rest mate. I want talk about who’s playing at our local dive bar next week, I’m not bothered about Brexit any more.
He’s bound to read it here. What better place to write it.
I voted leave because the EU hasn’t passed an audit for about 25 - 30 years, fraud being regularly cited. Our local politicians of all persuasions are bent enough, why add more?
On a basic matter we were desperate to join the EU in the seventies because the UK was bankrupt. We ended up being the second highest contributor after Germany with loads of net takers and many applying to join.
Much cheaper, given the fraud, to just give money directly to the East European states (and of course Greece.).
He’s bound to read it here. What better place to write it.
My friend does not use platforms like this. I know him better than you do.

I’m genuinely surprised it’s that many.
“What is everyone mad about‽ We get to call Pakistanis Indians and Poles slurs again! What more could anyone want‽”
Look how much the NHS has benefited from the extra billions pumped into it so far.
It would be a win-win for the UK and EU if you just rejoin.
They have to go to the back of the queue.
Standing in line should not be a problem for the Brits
Oh no! The country that stole a ton of shit suddenly is not so great now that they can’t steal more shit!
But really, they got all the global wealth and it made them rich. They thought they were rich because they were intrinsically great but really they were just propping themselves up. They thought they could brexit and retain their greatness but the EU wasn’t stifling them it was masking their decline.

I think a LOT of voters wanted to slow down migration. Leaders lied to them, and claimed the only way to do that was to leave the EU, so they did. Now they’re realising the reason migration is high is because both major parties are neoliberals who want high migration to pump house prices and keep wages low. It won’t change until they elect a party which cares about the working class, and campaigns on reducing migration to no more than the number of homes built in the previous year. This is such common sense policy that the only reason it’s not already in effect is because leaders in all major parties don’t care about the middle class.
The country needs more people. Locals are not having enough babies to cover that, and the world is full of fantastic other people who want to come here, and help make the place great. The only reason to turn them away is a toxic mix of short-sightedness and racism.
needs more tax payers.
The country needs more people.
No it doesn’t. It certainly didn’t need 1.2 million people last year. The only reason to support this insanity is a desire to increase homelessness and impoverish the middle and lower classes.
We do need more people to work in certain industries. Not necessarily more people in general, but there are absolutely industries that relied on foreign nationals to help them meet staffing levels and after Brexit they aren’t meeting those. This is partly due to UK citizens feeling they are ‘too good’ to do certain types of work, though more and more are now taking these roles as there are no other options as our country becomes poorer.
This is an awful policy on so many levels it’s difficult to pick an angle to criticise that’s not self-evident.
I don’t think having enough homes for people is an awful policy. Where do you want the migrants to live? Tents?
