Working from home was a difficult transition for me, but adding plants (and having good light) make all the difference. I thought you folks would approve.

I love it! Looks great. I’m jealous, I’ve had to severely limit my houseplant numbers and locations because my cats will try to eat anything and everything, even the plants that supposedly sting or taste awful to them. I’m hoping they grow out of it one day so I can have something set up like this!

Lovely, thank you for sharing! For some reason I can’t see any comments in jerboa atm, so please excuse if this has already been asked. What is the tall one on the left, and is it happy to stay away from the light? All office greens complain when they’re not plastered up against a window.

The tall one on the left is an arabica coffee plant I’ve grown from seed. It’s actually fine with the indirect light from being away from the windows and from the bright lights above.

That makes perfect sense since I think coffee is grown in the understory? How long has it taken to grow to its size? If it’s not too long, I give it a try!

I think you’re right about the understory. They like indirect partial sun, it seems. I do have a bright light above it as well. I think it took like 5-7 years to get to this point, but that was with some set backs when I was figuring out watering.

Gorgeous! I agree that having plants around makes working from home so much better. I have an ivy on my desk that has grown so much alongside my career! What kind of mouse is that? Looks ergonomic af.

It’s definitely ergonomic and helps wrist and thumb tendinitis I’ve been dealing with.

Me and my partner love having plants indoors but we get infested with gnats. We’ve tried hydrogen peroxide, and the yellow insect stickies and drying the soil out but nothing seems to work.

    Any tips?

A few things have helped. The yellow stickies have done a lot to slow them down. I’ve also put about an inch of perlite (or vermiculite) on top of the soil as I’ve heard they can’t lay eggs in it. As a last resort I’ve take a few pots outside and totally replaced the soil when nothing else worked.

Once they’ve set in, I’m not sure there’s any winning. All you can do is beat them back.

Do you think the perlite has helped? Thought about doing this to all our pots.

I think it helped a bit. Really though, the yellow stickies did the most as long as I kept replacing them as they filled up. I also put many many of these around the plants.

For some reason, I’m finding that quite a lot of them aren’t ending up on the stickies. Maybe there’s a trick to placing them just right? ¯\(ツ)

Try neem cake on top of the soil, it stinks, but it’s pet friendly. It saved my drama ficus twice. Also, you might be overwatering

Haha, is it a really strong stink?

Looks interesting. Also seems to have nutrients as well. Will look into this. Thank you!

it’s not a deal breaker and after a few days it should go away, also depends on how much you use. I also used to mix it with soil, it might reduce the smell but I don’t bother lately since I don’t use too much. And it’s for sure better than spraying neem oil around lol

Systemic granules. These are the solution, hands down. I’ve tried absolutely everything and this is the only solution that genuinely works. Neem oil did nothing. Mosquito bits kinda work, but they only kill the larvae and you have to keep re-applying it. Systemic granules will solve the problem

Fantastic vibes. Are the plants getting all their light from the window or do you have grow lights in there too?

It’s a combination of the windows and some 6000-lumen garage lights I put in the van lights above. You can kinda see one of those at the top of the pic.

It’s beautiful! I want more plants for my apartment, but I have to find some that my cat won’t to nibble on, won’t hurt her if she does nibble anyway, and also isn’t difficult to care for

I’m so jealous. I’ve never had a green thumb and we have almost no direct sunlight in our house, so plant growing just is never going to be a thing. But I grew up with a mother and grandparents who filled their houses with plants and I do miss it.
