Thought I’d see if there were any likeminded individuals around.

This is three of my small collection that I have with me at work. The 4G Classic (left) is modded with 64gb, the Mini is 128gb, and the 7G Classic is currently in need of storage and battery. My plan for that one is to give it 512gb and as big a battery as I can squeeze in there.

I have a mini in some drawer, didn’t realize this thing could be modified! I listen music from my phone but I still use the good old way of building a collection of files on PC and transferring them to the device. Reviving my mini sounds sort of cool…

The Mini is one of the easier, cheaper ones to mod, because the hard drive uses a Compact Flash connector. So you can either replace the drive with a standard CF card, or you can buy a CF>SD adapter and get more bang for your buck.

The 1st gens can only go to 128gb, but the 2nd gens can take 256gb.

However, they are slightly more awkward to take apart than a regular classic iPod.

    I have an iPad nano

I’d really like to restore it for general use, and also hope to save the existing data since it has some recordings I did in a guy’s apartment studio that are the only surviving copies

I’d love to have an iPod Touch, or an iPod Shuffle, but the first is too pricy for what you get and the later is unfindable at a reasonable price.

I have a 4th gen Touch around here somewhere, but it’s not in the best condition. Also, the fixed storage means they’re kind of uninteresting to me. All you can do to them is replace the battery.

I’ve never really been a fan of the iPod, but I had an older one that you could load custom firmware on, which extends the life of the device. I never really used it, just messed around with it.

A good number of iPods can have Rockbox loaded on to them. I did it on my 4th gen, but ultimately preferred the original firmware.

      I love the Classics.

I also have a black 5th gen that still has the stock 30gb hard drive and original battery. But that’s at home, so didn’t make it into my photo. I use that one for my chilled out bedtime playlist to fall asleep to. At some point it’ll be getting a flashmod, but I want to do the 7th gen first.

I have an ipod mini HP from 2005 - it looks like it’s been chewed on by a dog but the DAC sounds so good… It was modded to have a new battery and 64gb storage.

Can we mention our other MP3 players? I also use a Sandisk Sansa-clip, pretty good sound quality and battery life for an off-brand nugget. (Also still holds a charge a long time for something from 2011)
